What is the Section 179D Deduction?

Section 1331 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 enacted Section 179D of the Internal Revenue Code which provides federal tax deductions worth up to $1.80 per square foot for commercial buildings that have been newly constructed or retrofitted since December 31, 2005.

What is the deduction for?

The Section 179D Deduction is claimed for the installation of energy efficient interior lighting, HVAC, and building envelope systems placed in service as part of new construction or retrofit projects, for commercial buildings, as well as government owned structures.
